What it is

What Sculptra is.

Sculptra is a Health Canada–approved injectable that helps restore facial volume, soften wrinkles, and stimulate collagen production over time. Unlike traditional dermal fillers that give immediate volume, Sculptra works more gradually by encouraging your body to produce its own collagen. The result is subtle, natural-looking rejuvenation that continues to improve over the following months.

Sculptra is made of poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), a biocompatible and biodegradable substance that's been safely used in medical settings for years, including in dissolvable sutures. When it's injected into the deeper layers of the skin, it stimulates collagen production — this is the protein responsible for your skin's structure and elasticity. As new collagen forms, it helps restore volume, smooth lines, and improve overall skin quality and firmness.

What makes Sculptra different from traditional fillers is that it doesn't create immediate volume. Instead, it works beneath the surface to gradually rebuild collagen, leading to a more natural, refreshed appearance that develops over time and keeps improving for several months. Most clients see initial results within 4–6 weeks, with improvement continuing over 2–3 months.

Results last up to two years or longer, which makes Sculptra one of the most long-term anti-aging treatments available.

Where it works

Where Sculptra works.

  • Cheeks — restores volume in the upper face and creates a natural lift.
  • Temples — refills the hollowing that becomes visible with age, supporting the structures below.
  • Jawline — adds structure and supports the lower face.
  • Skin tightening — improves laxity and firms the skin.

Sculptra is an excellent treatment for clients seeing volume loss or skin laxity — particularly when filler alone doesn't address the bigger picture.

Who it's for

Who Sculptra works best for.

Sculptra suits clients who want long-term results and are comfortable with gradual change. It's not for clients who want immediate volume — for that, traditional filler is the right tool.

Sculptra works well for both preventative clients (in their 30s and 40s, slowing collagen loss) and corrective clients (in their 50s and beyond, restoring what's already been lost). By age 45, we've already lost 25% of our collagen. The earlier we replace your collagen, the better the long-term results and the less maintenance over time.

It's not suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding, and we'll discuss your full health history at consultation.

What to expect

Your appointment, step by step.

  1. Consultation. We discuss your goals, what you've tried, and whether Sculptra or another treatment is the right fit.
  2. Treatment. Sculptra is injected with topical numbing for comfort. Multiple sessions are typically required — usually 2–3, spaced about 4–6 weeks apart.
  3. Massage. I'll teach you a specific massage technique to do at home for several days after treatment.
  4. Patience. Sculptra works gradually. The result you see at 6 weeks won't be the final result — that develops over 2–3 months.
Pain & downtime

Pain & downtime.

Treatment is well tolerated with lidocaine in the injection. Swelling and bruising is normal in the first 24–48 hours.

Downtime is minimal. Most clients return to their day right after, though I'd avoid major events in the first week. Facial massage 5 minutes, 5 times per day for 5 days is mandatory to avoid risk of nodules.

Results timeline

Results timeline.

  • 4–6 weeks: First signs of improvement.
  • 2–3 months: Full results from your initial sessions develop.
  • Up to 2 years: Most clients enjoy results in this range.
  • Maintenance: 1 vial every 12 months keeps results consistent as we are still losing collagen yearly.

Common questions

Questions clients ask most.

How is Sculptra different from regular filler?

Filler adds volume immediately using hyaluronic acid. Sculptra stimulates your own collagen production, with gradual results over 2–3 months.

Will I look different right after?

You may notice minor swelling, but the real result develops over weeks and months. Sculptra is not an instant treatment but it is well worth it in the long term.

How many sessions will I need?

Most clients need 2–3 sessions, spaced about 4–6 weeks apart. Your specific plan depends on the area being treated, the level of correction needed, and age. More mature clients typically need more vials.

Can I have Sculptra if I'm pregnant or breastfeeding?

No. We'll plan for treatment when you're ready.

Is it safe?

Sculptra has been FDA-approved for over 20 years and has a strong clinical safety record. Most common risks are similar to those of any injection — bruising, swelling, and rare nodules at the injection site, which is why proper technique and post-treatment massage matter.
